Take iPhone photos with the GPS location and time attached.
A camera roll can show what happened without making the place easy to identify. GPS and timestamp photos keep capture details with the image so the recipient can understand the context.
Check the location before taking the photo
Open Fieldnote's camera and review the GPS accuracy. Capture requires a fresh location reading, which is saved with the date and time. Altitude and compass bearing are included when your iPhone provides them.
Location can be less precise in some surroundings. If the accuracy is not suitable for the task, improve reception before capturing or explain that limit to the recipient. Device GPS readings are useful context; they are not survey measurements or certified proof.
Choose the export your recipient needs
Keep the original in Fieldnote's local library. Share an original JPEG with GPS metadata when the receiving workflow can read it, or export a stamped copy so the location and time are visible on the image itself.
Check the exported file before sending. A recipient viewing a stamped image does not need to inspect metadata to read its capture details. For several related photos, a project and PDF report may communicate the visit more clearly than a collection of separate attachments.
Before you finish
- Allow camera and location access for capture.
- Review GPS accuracy before taking the photo.
- Choose original metadata or a visible stamp for the recipient.
Questions before you start
Can I change the recorded location later?
Notes and project names remain editable; the recorded capture location and time stay unchanged in Fieldnote.
Can I capture without mobile data?
Capture works without internet, with GPS reception still required. Maps need a connection.
